Vive Montjuïc

Vive Montjuïc, the cultural park, is a celebration in which, on 16 and 17 October 2021, the 22 cultural facilities that inhabit Montjuïc will offer their own and joint activities, with the aim of promoting the cultural offer of this very special place.

Considered the lungs of the city, Montjuïc Park is a hill overlooking the old city and the old port of Barcelona. Many buildings were constructed here for the 1992 Summer Olympics.  It is well known to tourists for its castle, its splendid view and its cable car. But Montjuïc is much more than that. It is a unique offer that combines forest areas with themed gardens, leisure, sports and service areas, but of course, culture.

Due to the need to make all citizens aware of the particularities of Montjuïc Park and all the facilities it contains, the city has decided to carry out a joint cultural action aimed at both locals and tourists, in order to share the cultural wealth of the place.

This year will be the first edition of this event. The aim is to repeat the experience every year. This project is part of the Montjuïc Park Action Plan 2019-2029. It is a municipal plan that seeks to make the cultural activity of the Park visible, as well as to create new spaces, establish synergies between all the sites that make it up, all with the aim of recovering the spirit of the 1929 International Exhibition.

During the weekend of 16 and 17 October, you can enjoy over 70 activities for all ages. Guided and theatrical routes, participatory interventions, guided tours and treasure hunts, concerts, dance and theatre performances, etc. There will also be reserved areas for eating, drinking and resting. You can also visit the centres that will be holding open days – Castell de Montjuïc, Cementiri de Montjuïc, Espai Bombers and Jardí Botànic – or take a guided tour of some of the exhibitions currently on show in the institutions, such as the Coneix CaixaForum Barcelona. Modernisme modernitat at CaixaForum or Memòria de les Arts Escèniques at the Institut del Teatre. Some institutions even organise treasure hunts, such as the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and the Poble Espanyol.

Riding a bike makes you happy

We’re not kidding, and we’re not just saying that because you’re passionate about cycling. Cycling allows our body the production of endorphins, the more scientific will already know what it is, but if you do not know endorphins are also known as the hormone of happiness.

What are endorphins?

As we have already told you, endorphins are the hormone of happiness, but from a more scientific point of view they can be defined as a neuropeptide whose function is to stimulate the areas of the brain that produce the sensation of pleasure.

As a natural drug, endorphins are classified as endogenous opiates due to their chemical composition and their effects are similar to those produced by opium derivatives.

Why do we produce endorphins?

Cycling training can have as side effects muscle inflammation, fatigue and stress, with the endorphins produced you can counteract these negative feelings and provide a sense of wellbeing.

  • Endorphins as an anxiolytic

Pedal for 20 minutes at 70% of your maximum heart rate and the secretion of endorphins will reduce negative emotions such as stress. The effects generated will last up to 6 hours afterwards.

  • Endorphins as an analgesic

It is normal to feel better after a cycling session, even if you were in pain before. Endorphins also act as an analgesic. Muscle and tendon pain will be reduced for 4 hours.

  • Endorphins as anti-fatigue

They allow the reduction of exhaustion by slowing down the cardiac and respiratory rhythms.
