Barcelona, world capital of architecture in 2026

The International Union of Architects (UIA) has decided that Barcelona will become the UIA-Unesco World Capital of Architecture in 2026. The city was already the capital of this event in 1996.

The Catalan city outperformed Beijing by 147 votes to 129. The decision was made in Rio de Janeiro, which currently holds the title of World Capital of Architecture. Rio de Janeiro will retain this title until 2023, when Copenhagen will hand it over. The Danish capital will pass the title to Barcelona in 2026.
